Dining at Trinity

Food Services at PվɫÇéƬ is overseen by the Office of the Dean of Students. The Office of the Dean of Students should be students’ first point of contact for all questions or concerns about Food Services, meal plans and dietary accommodation needs. Chartwells Canada is Trinity’s Food Service provider. The Chartwells team operates and manages Trinity’s dining facilities.

PվɫÇéƬ has two dining facilities – Strachan Hall and the Buttery – which operate during the academic year (September through April). At both locations, we strive to offer delicious, healthy, and ethically-procured food to nourish the minds and bodies of our students and community members. At Trinity, we have a strong food vision – we believe that excellent food is a critical element in cultivating and supporting student health and wellness, and ultimately, overall student success. For more information about Trinity’s food vision, check out the Trinity’s Food Commitment page.

Highlights of our operations at both Strachan Hall and the Buttery include:

  • Healthy, fresh, and customizable food options, accommodating a variety of dietary needs (e.g. vegan, vegetarian, made without gluten, etc.)
  • Fresh and made-from-scratch menu items at all dining outlets
  • New (April 2024): Pre-packaged Kosher meals are available in Strachan Hall
  • Online menus that provide students with the opportunity to review dining menus and general food offerings
  • Cashless operations at all of our dining outlets

PվɫÇéƬ’s dining outlets are not allergen-free facilities or kosher facilities. The dining halls are currently able to accommodate patrons who require a vegetarian or vegan diet, halal diet, lactose/dairy free diet and made without gluten diet; and pre-packaged Kosher meals are available in Strachan Hall. PվɫÇéƬ may be able to accommodate patrons with food allergies depending on the type of allergy the patron has and the severity of that allergy. If you have questions about your dietary accommodation needs, please contact the Office of the Dean of Students at trinity.deanofstudents@utoronto.ca.

STRACHAN HALL

Strachan Hall (6 Hoskin Avenue) serves as the largest of Trinity’s dining facilities. The menu consists of locally-sourced foods and produce, as well as food made from scratch using wholesome ingredients and healthy proteins, such as fish and whole grains.

From September through April, the servery in Strachan Hall is open all day, from breakfast through dinner, with a full meal service taking place at designated meal times. Between meals, students can access the servery for on-the-go items, snacks, whole or cut fruits, desserts, and assorted beverages. Strachan Hall is open to the Trinity community. Patrons are able to use their Residence Meal Plan, Trinity Flex Dollars, debit or credit.

DINING FOR RESIDENCE STUDENTS

All students living in the PվɫÇéƬ residences are required to purchase a meal plan, which can be used at Strachan Hall and the Buttery.  The Trinity Residence Meal Plans operate on a declining balance system, wherein your TCard (student card) acts like a debit card and your starting balance is determined by the meal plan you choose. At every transaction, you will be charged for each individual item you select, and the total cost of your purchase is deducted from your account balance. The Trinity Residence Meal Plan can be used at Trinity dining locations but not at U of T operated food outlets.

Given that all residence students are required to have a meal plan, all potential or current PվɫÇéƬ students with food allergies or dietary accommodation requirements are encouraged to connect with the Office of the Dean of Student (trinity.deanofstudents@utoronto.ca) for accommodation assistance.

Check out the Residence Fees page and the PվɫÇéƬ Residence Meal Plan page for more information about residence meal plans and pricing.

DINING FOR COMMUTER STUDENTS

Commuter students are welcome on campus and are encouraged to come and eat at Trinity’s dining locations. Commuter students are able to pay for food using debit, credit or Trinity Flex Dollars. Trinity Flex Dollars allow the holder to pre-load a set amount of money onto their TCard to be used at any of the Trinity dining outlets. Trinity Flex Dollars operate on a declining cash balance system. Trinity Flex Dollars are available only to Trinity students, faculty, and staff and can be purchased throughout the academic year at the Welcome Desk located on the main level of the Trinity building, at 6 Hoskin Avenue. For students living off-campus, Trinity Flex Dollars are a great way to purchase food on-campus at Trinity.

Check out the Trinity Flex Dollars page for more information about the program and pricing.

ECO TO-GO CONTAINER PROGRAM

Trinity has invested in an Eco To-Go Container Program, which allows students to take food out of the dining outlets using a reusable, BPA-free plastic container. Containers are returned after use, to be washed by the Food Services team. All residence students are automatically opted into the Eco To-Go program.

How the program works:

  1. Order your meal and let the server know you would like your food in a Eco To-Go Container.
  2. When you go to pay, either present your Eco To-Go Exchange Card (if you have already opted into the program) or pay for the program by leaving a $10 Flex deposit (one-time fee on your TCard).
  3. Enjoy your meal.
  4. Return your used Eco To-Go Container to the dining facility and receive an Eco To-Go Exchange Card.
  5. Use the Eco To-Go Exchange Card to get your next meal.
